Regeneration through Circular Design
OVERVIEW
Social Problems are Design Problems is And A Half Studio’s design conference: a two-day hybrid gathering of creatives and advocates, asking what design can do for a world in crisis. The 2021 theme: Regeneration through Circular Design Strategies.
I created the visual identity, art direction, website design, and animated the entire campaign. The team built on the system with illustrations and slides that helped shape the theme of the event.

CREATIVE CHALLENGES
"Circular design" is the kind of theme that usually gets a leaf logo and a green palette, and everyone politely forgets it. The identity had to make regeneration feel like something: alive, warm, a little strange, while working hard across a real campaign: posters, banners, a website, social, and AR.
The idea went into the typography itself: clean, structured type with organic forms growing through it with letters interrupted and completed by nature. A system regenerating from the inside, which is the theme, said without saying it but around it: sun-warm gradients and soft orbs, closer to dawn than to "eco."

MY ROLE
The identity system: including logotype, alternate glyph set, color, and motion language, plus the animated posters and banners that carried the campaign.
The system was built to be handed off: the team's illustrations and slides plugged into it without losing the thread.

THE RESULTS
A full two-day hybrid conference carried by one identity filled with lectures, workshops, virtual gathering, AR, all in partnership with the Japan Foundation.
